Clean Label Project Certification
Issued by Clean Label Project (501(c)(3) nonprofit)
CertificationAudit Scope
META-CERT: aggregates pre-existing GMP / food-safety certifications (NSF/ANSI 455-2, SQF, NPA) + adds contaminant testing (heavy metals, pesticides, BPA, phthalates). NOT a standalone GMP certification. Annual renewal; lot-level contaminant testing.
What It Proves
Specific products have been tested for environmental contaminants beyond what cGMP requires (heavy metals, pesticides, BPA, phthalates) AND the manufacturing facility holds an underlying NSF/SQF/NPA GMP certification that CLP audits.
What It Does Not Prove
Does NOT replace underlying GMP cert. WITHOUT a base GMP cert (NSF/SQF/NPA), CLP alone is not sufficient evidence of manufacturing quality. Per BSCG analysis 2026: 'Clean Label Project is a META-cert that evaluates GMP or food safety certificates'; its strength depends on the underlying base cert's strength.
